Experienced Surgical Tech/SPD Tech is responsible for assisting surgeons and other members of the surgical team during operations, including pre-surgery setup and post-operation tasks. The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment used throughout the surgical center. This position ensures that all reusable medical devices are processed according to manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), infection prevention standards, and applicable regulatory requirements to provide safe, high-quality patient care.
Duties:
- Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
- Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
- Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
- Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean and orderly.
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following established infection prevention protocols.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage.
- Assemble instrument trays according to standardized count sheets.
- Package and sterilize instruments using steam or other approved sterilization methods.
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment and perform required quality assurance testing.
- Document sterilization cycles and maintain accurate processing records.
- Store and distribute sterile supplies while maintaining package integrity.
- Maintain knowledge of manufacturers' Instructions for Use (IFUs) for cleaning, assembly, and sterilization.
- Perform biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring of sterilizers.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning instruments and coordinate repairs or replacement.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant SPD work environment.
- Comply with OSHA, CDC, AAMI, facility policies, and accreditation standards.
Qualifications:
- 3 years previous experience in plastic surgery required.
Healthcare setting:
- Ambulatory Surgery Center specializing in Plastic Surgery located in Newport Beach, CA.
Schedule:
- Morning shift.
- Evening shift.
- Occasional Saturday shifts.
